This past week, we saw on the news two Philadelphia pastors charged with sexual abuse.
As we pray for the victims and their families let us remember all who are in our congregations and communities who are silently carrying their own story of sexual trauma. They may never tell you, but our words and actions, or even our silence will be noticed. Let us respond this week showing that our church is a place where truth, accountability, compassion, and healing matter.
As we serve our churches and communities let us:
Acknowledge the pain
Validate the harm
Pray with intention
Speak with compassion
Let those in our churches and communities know that we are committed to protecting the vulnerable and caring for those who have been wounded. We display the love and power of God when the Church reflects the heart of Christ through truth, integrity, compassion, and healing. Your words cannot change what happened, but they can influence whether someone feels safe enough to begin healing.
